Survey

About this survey:

An examination of the United States Department of Labor Occupational Information Network database (O*NET) did not list the occupation of Credit Counselor. Therefore current research is being conducted to include and standardize the job title of Credit Counselor in which several benefits would incur. The first benefit would be uniform use of job titles (including a Standard Occupational Classification Code), and their accompanying tasks, across organizations. Currently several titles for the position are used in the industry including; credit counselor, debt counselor, debt management counselor, customer service, and debt management consultant. This non-uniform use of job titles and tasks makes comparisons across organizations difficult, and can present difficulties when determining training and selection needs. The second benefit accrued from inclusion in O*NET is federal collection of labor statistics including projected employment growth, earnings, education or training requirements, opportunities for self-employment and part-time work, and unemployment rates. The third benefit is more intangible, but is important. Inclusion would also lend legitimacy to the position, and the industry.
